Free Verse

“Free Verse” is a site-specific installation for the Redwood City Library Children’s Room.  The installation features eight favorite children’s books, reconfigured into colorful networks of pictures and words on suspended openwork panels that ascend in a spiral towards the central skylight. Four additional classic book choices are featured below on the tops of stools created with stacked deaccessioned books from the library's collection.  Upon entering the Children’s Room, patrons are greeted by a floating constellation of familiar characters in an innovative setting, as the images overlay and visually interact with each other, glowing with sunlight passing through colorful planes of imagery and text.  This artwork expresses the cross-fertilization of ideas that a book-enriched childhood provides.
